The following is Grady's story:

Grady is our 7 year old little boy who was born on February 3, 2011. He was born 6 weeks early and was immediately taken to Akron Children's Hospital and spent 14 days in the NICU unit.  On June 15, 2015 Grady was 4 1/2 years old and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and spent another week in Akron Children's Hospital. This was a disease that would change his life and our lives forever.  A year later Grady was diagnosed with Celiac Disease which again would change   his life forever, he would have to learn a whole new gluten free diet at such a young age!  He is our tough little boy and he took both of these diseases head on fighting everyday for his life.  We thought how lucky we are as parents to have a child so strong and never complains about being dealt such hardship in his life.  Then on April 16, 2018, Grady was diagnosed with (ALL) Leukemia (b-cell) and was told he would have to undergo chemotherapy treatment for 3 1/2 years. This was devastating to all of us, we cried and cried and could not understand why him!! As a family, we didn't know why the bad news kept pouring on for our youngest boy out of 3. It was just heartbreaking to know he had to battle yet another disease!! Grady has to have many different kinds of chemo through his port, through injections, and oral drugs. He will undergo many spinal taps. He will have to take a certain antibiotic the entire time for 3 1/2 years to prevent getting a rear case of pneumonia. He was told he couldn't return to school until authorized and he couldn't play sports during the entire time of his treatment.  He is often times with such a low immune system that he is not able to be around anyone other than his family and is not able to be in public places. We are lucky to have so many people, friends and family support him during this difficult time in his life.  We know our GradyStrong will battle and fight his hardest for his life! #GradyStrong
